07-11-2010 Roll Call all present Presidents intro Thanks to all who came out to the RBR, and all who volunteered. There were no accidents on the rides, only 1 flat tire. MSP Treasurers Report Merchandise Report We had about $2100 in sales at the RBR yesterday. Thank you to all who volunteered. Membership Report none Riders Ed Jeff Berg will be stepping down, Thank you Jeff for all the hard work you have done over the years. Road Captain Thank you all for volunteering at the RBR. Old Business New Business There was a hat passed around, and instead of waiting, we collected enough money to purchase a granite brick in her memory now, rather than later. 03-10-10 GMMRoll call all present Presidents intro Thanks to all the volunteers for the midwinter membership drive and for coming out. John Dooley was the first recipient of the Bob Illingsworth award. There were over 500 bikers at WI lobby day, 12 on the SCVR bus. Please remember when you speak to your Reps/Senators, be respectful and keep on task. There is a Webmaster vacancy. Dave Eiynck has stepped down. Thank you for all of your years of volunteering in this position. Steam conference April 23-25. Secretaries report motion to bypass the reading of the minutes. MSP Treasurers report so far this year we have raised approx $7500, spent about $4000 of that. We do not yet have the numbers from the midwinter membership drive, we will have those numbers at the next general meeting. MSP to accept. Merchandise we still need volunteers for the Donnie Smith bike show. Membership none Riders Ed WI has raised the price for the basic rider course. BOD will revisit how much we will reimburse.to the WI price. Road captain Another exciting trip to WI lobby day, the bus was broke into. There will be a RBR meeting after todays meeting. We still need road guides (and other volunteers for the RBR) Legislative Reports MN Fail to yield has passed the house. Stalled in the Senate judiciary committee. There is a bill to include bicycles in turning on a red light at this point it looks like it will pass with no unfriendly attachments. We will keep an eye on it. There is another bill to change the law to allow mc license plates to be either vertical or horizontal. There were a few SCVR members who were disrespectful to their senators. Please remember to be respectful and to stay focused on why we are there. If you have other issues to discuss with them, please set up another appointment for this. 02-14-2010Roll call all present Presidents intro We have 2 guests today, Daryl Coons from Accident Scene Management and Jim Miller from ABATE region 7B to accept/collect our donation to ABATE WI lobby day. Dwight/Leslie Smith are stepping down from the newsletter position. They have done it for the last 6 years, and have done a fantastic job. Thank you. The last issue will be the March issue. Juliann Anderson will take over the position. She will step down from the merchandise coordinator will stay on through the RBR to help the new coordinator. We won the Federal Legislative Award from the MRF for influence with Jim Oberstar chair of transportation. Last day to submit a name for the Bob Illingworth Award to be announced at the Mid Winter Membership Drive. We are strting an advertising contest. We need these ads to offset the cost of the newsletter. $50 for whoever gets the most ads, $50 for whoever brings in the most revenue. Riders Ed MMSC has a list of classes available online. Road Captain Lobby Day bus leaves the Gas-Lite at 6am on Tuesday, Feb 23rd. We are starting to plan the RBR Legislative Director MN- Get signed up for Biker Day at the Capital - Wed, Feb 24th. Failure to yield will be reintroduced this year. There are 4 bills being introduced (2 senate, 2 house) We are hopeful they will pass. Phylis Kahn is introducing a bill for bicycles to be able to run read lights we will watch closely for any motorcycle unfriendly language. WI- Lobby Day Tuesday, Feb 23rd. Bus to leave the Gas-Lite at 6am. We have a meeting set up with all reps from our area and our senator. Jim Miller (ABATE region 7B) is here to accept our donation for ABATE WI. Thank you, this will be used to help get our members to Lobby Day. We expect approximately 500-600 people to come. State Rep for MRF Todd Riba, and BOD for MRF. MRF was having serious financial concerns. All MROs answered the call. Thank you for your support. MOTM 2009 raised over $100,000. Thank you. MOTM 2010 will be in Peoria IL. We continue to keep a close eye on the healthcare bill so there is not any language about denying because of lifestyle choices. Transportation bill we want to make sure some of the tax money we pay when we fill our motorcycles is reinvested in motorcycling. And that there is no blackmailing the states to get a mandatory helmet law passed. MRF lobby day will be in mid May. (Bikers in the Beltway) Heartland Steam will be in Clear Lake IA April 23-25. All are welcome to come to the Chili Feed meeting to help plan. We have a budget of 101,000. We are currently getting bids from different companies. Why are we waiting so long to start meetings? It is hard to get commitments from companies this early. We are working on getting sponsors/advertisers to help with costs. We should look to see if the companies we have been using would be interested in offering a discount for advertising/sponsorship. Chili Feed is our biggest fundraiser we are looking at trimming costs where we can. Daryl Coons Accident Scene Management Lead instructor, retired law enforcement officer. Rider since 1967. Accident scene management started in 1996, classes started in 1997. Supported by NHTSA, WiDOT, Rescue Riders / Hupy Law firm and insurance companies. Shows you what to do should you come across a motorcycle accident. We should look to see if we can get an Accident Scene Management class set up after a general meeting. Old Business International bike show. we spent $600 to do it. We made $300. We will probably not do it again. Our signage was poor we should really focus more on our mission and our merchandise less. New Business We have our PO Box in St Paul Park, the Legion lets us use the back room for our Christmas party. There is an American Legion Riders Chapter starting in St Paul Park. Possibly the money from our 50/50 could be split amongst 2 members. SCVR is not a club, it is an organization. Why are the meetings held in Hudson? We try to keep it in the St Croix Valley. Dibbos offers us a private room with our own bartender. This way we are not competing with racing, football games, or any other noise. We have membership forms for the MRF There are T-Shirts for sale for the Minnesota Motorcycle Pac, proceeds go into the Pac fund Separate organization form ABATE of MN May general meeting and spring roadside cleanup are currently scheduled on Mothers Day. At our last BOD meeting, we agreed that Jill Keilblock would be our 2010 lobbyist. There are minutes out on the tables today from our last general meeting, and the December BOD meeting. There is a bylaw change for a finance review committee, and to change to a fiscal year. BOD meetings are changing from quarterly to bi-monthly. Bob Illingworth award to be announced at the Mid Winter membership drive. If you have someone you would like to nominate, please submit to a BOD member. Secretaries report. Feb 2 are the precinct caucuses. 5 of the 6 MN political parties will have caucuses that night. These caucuses are run by the political parties. Make sure to go be a part of the process help to choose the candidates. Check with the city clerk for more information after January 20th. All other information is removed. As policy, we should not give out any information to any other organizations without the OK from the general membership. We are attempting to get a grant from the AMA for $1000 to supplement our rider education program. 1 1⁄2 weeks ago we met with Tom Bakk from the iron range. Bill Schaeffer (Motorcycle Safety Project Coordinator) from the Minnesota Motorcycle Safety Center) will speak today to us about motorcycle safety conference-how funds from MN motorcycle endorsement/registrations are used-how 2010 funds are used- to answer any questions we may have.I also have a copy of NHTSA statistics from 2008 injury/fatality report. I will e-mail it to you if you would like your own copy. Dial a ride would like to expand the booth size to include other orgs. Possibly Dial-a-ride and friends. We would get a 10x10 booth for half price. If someone wants to volunteer/step up how can you turn them down for the position? These are elected positions (by the membership) if they feel that they do not want a couple on the BOD, then do not vote for them. The BOD does not make decisions for the SCVR on their own, they give recommendations to the general membership, then it is voted on. One problem, the members are not in the position until after they are voted in. Are we saying that spouses cannot run for the positions? Amendment to the motion: Spouse/significant other cannot be in top 4 positions (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary) of the BOD effective 2010 election. 27 favor 13 against. MRF is our watchdog at the federal level We really need them. They have a paid lobbiest, an office in DC. They are in a financial crunch. We are co-hosting their national conference (Meeting of the Minds) this year with ABATE of MN in Bloomington MN. SCVR will pay for your admission to the conference, you pay for your hotel/banquet. We have some donation letters for MOTM, please take one and drop off at your local businesses. Secretaries report motion to bypass the reading of the minutes.
